The exhibition centers around the new portrait series “Watashi wa mita,” which explores the very act of seeing through paintings of people, depicting a contemporary myth of a “Future That Has Not Been Broken.”

The artist is interested in painting the particular way each person sees the world—the moment when something unique to them emerges through their gaze, posture, clothing, and the atmosphere that arises across the entire image.

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1969; moved to the United States in 1996 and based in Brooklyn, New York; returned to Japan in 2001 and currently based in Tokyo.
