The exhibition features new plein air paintings of the Hawai‘i and California coasts, as well as the first exhibition of new spray paintings in nearly a decade.

Sterling Ruby creates works that explore the ocean’s sublime nature, using small works on paper, ceramics, and spray paintings to evoke the ocean’s awe and terror, drawing inspiration from Romanticists and Hokusai.

This is Ruby’s first solo show in Japan since 2023 and his fifth with Taka Ishii Gallery.
