BITTERSWEET
The exhibition introduces the artist's original characters, Arichan and Okkun, which are new to her work and represent a contemporary interpretation of Japanese folklore and emotional storytelling through color and form.
The artist uses color, form, and character design to give physical shape to feelings that can otherwise be difficult to express, drawing from childhood memories, toys, nostalgia, and the complicated emotions that can exist beneath things that initially appear cute or familiar.
Arisa Adams is a Japanese-American multidisciplinary artist born in Tokyo and raised in Las Vegas. She studied visual arts with a focus on painting and sculpture before attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where she studied painting and performance. She later returned to Japan, where she worked in modeling and entertainment with Oscar Promotion and appeared on NHK.
