About this exhibition

The new works reflect a deeper connection with nature, incorporating a broader spatial and open expression, and a shift in technique where the paper itself is used as a support rather than being traced onto canvas.

The artist

Yuko Someya captures life and death, birth and nature, through imaginative and fantastical depictions of flora and fauna, often reflecting on personal memories and life changes.

Yuko Someya was born in 1980 in Chiba Prefecture. She graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art, Tokyo Zokei University in 2004, and completed her master's degree in Printmaking at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006. She has had solo exhibitions such as 'Yuko Someya' at Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica (2014) and 'Wildflowers in Which You See Yourself' at Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo (2024). She has also participated in group exhibitions such as 'Living Things' at the Vanji Sculpture Garden Museum, Shizuoka (2016). She received awards including the Collection Award and Audience Award at the National University Printmaking Exhibition in 2004 and the VOCA 2014 Award for Contemporary Art in 2014.
