All That Shines
This exhibition offers new frameworks for Mori’s practice, positioning it within the fields of technological futurism, popular visual culture, and philosophies of consciousness, and highlights her evolution from critical perspectives on contemporary society to larger metaphysical concerns.
curated by Alexandra Munroe and Kataoka Mami
Mariko Mori's practice is situated at the intersection of art, technology, and transcendental experience, exploring themes such as Japanese animé culture, gender, post-humanism, Buddhist concepts, and scientific theories through immersive and technologically advanced works.
Mariko Mori rose to prominence in the mid-1990s with her 'Cyborg' series and has since expanded her focus to metaphysical concerns informed by Buddhist concepts. In 2010, she established the Faou Foundation to install artworks that encourage a reconnection between nature and humanity.
