About this exhibition
theme Sacred Places
This show marks a shift in focus from sacred places themselves to people connected with them, emphasizing the role of living people in creating and maintaining sacred sites.
The artist
Izu creates images that capture the dense atmosphere and sense of sanctity in sacred places using large-format film and the platinum-palladium printing process, focusing on people connected with sacred sites rather than the sites themselves.
Izu left Japan for New York in 1971 at the age of 21 and has explored themes of prayer and human dignity for over 50 years.
