theme Sculptglyph: A Spell of Sculpture

This exhibition introduces a new series of pictographic characters carved onto stone slabs, born from the intersection of sculpture and language, reflecting Ishikawa’s ongoing exploration of what sculpture is.

Ishikawa creates stone sculptures placed in a natural forest without pedestals, and carves words onto fragmented stone slabs as pictographic characters resembling incantations, exploring the intersection of sculpture and language.

Naoya Ishikawa was born in Tokyo in 1987 and lives and works in Kanagawa, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Sculpture. He is currently active as a sculptor and owner of Gallery Gigi. He has had multiple solo and group exhibitions since 2015.
