Side Effects
This exhibition explores the contrast between Kakutani's use of deletion and omission and Kikuchi's use of repetition, both aiming to trigger unexpected reactions in viewers through their distinct approaches.
Kisho Kakutani adds noise and blurring to smartphone images to create obscure pictures, aiming to eliminate their function as visual information while supplementing them with viewer memories. Reo Kikuchi restructures images through repetitive hand alterations to explore the relationship between original and copies, and individuality and reproducibility.
Kisho Kakutani completed the Doctoral Program in Japanese Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2022 and has had multiple solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Taipei, and Beijing. Reo Kikuchi completed the Doctoral Program at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2023 and has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo and Mie.
