The particles of earth, grasped loosely by hand, are arranged, layered, and compressed onto paper. The flow of forces captured between intention and chance. I think each day about encountering the yet-unseen faces of earth.
Born in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture in 1966. Studied under Takeyoshi Gakuho at Kokuji-yaki Pottery in 1992. Began pottery in Noda Village in 1995. Received the Grand Prize at the 38th Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition in 2000. Exhibited at SOFA New York in 2005. Received the Award for Excellence at the 20th Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition in 2009. Received the Iwate Prefectural Art Selection Award in 2011. Exhibited at SOFA Chicago in 2012. Exhibited at COLLECT London in 2014. Solo Exhibition at Ippodo Gallery New York in 2017. Solo Exhibition at Ginza Ippodo in 2020. Exhibited at Design Miami in 2022. Exhibited at Tokyo Gendai in 2025.
