About this exhibition

The series marks a change in Gerstberger’s use of color, moving toward silver, grey, blue, and black tones, and introduces a new technique involving sand, industrial paint, and oil paint to create a rough, heavy surface resembling stone or concrete.

The artist

Gerstberger creates paintings that function as fragments of a larger mural, using a new technique involving sand, industrial paint, and oil paint to create a rough, heavy surface resembling stone or concrete. The series explores themes of gathering, exposure, and transformation through the image of vultures.

Yann Gerstberger (b. Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, 1983) currently lives and works in Cuixmala, Mexico. He studied painting and sculpture at École des Beaux Arts de Marseille and received his Master’s degree in 2007. He has had institutional exhibitions at Museo Tamayo, MO.CO., Museo MATE, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Querétaro, Le Consortium, Musée d’Art Moderne, Power Station of Art, and Palais de Tokyo, among others.
