About this exhibition

This exhibition presents a full-length sculpture of Emperor Hirohito, completed after seventeen years of work, and derived sculptural and video works.

The artist

Fujii takes on Emperor Hirohito by hammering iron sheets from both sides, moving back and forth between the inner and outer dimensions of his subject in an intense process of scrutiny.

Born in Nagoya, 1967. Received his B.A. from Nihon University College of Art, 1990. Awards include the Second Prize at the 8th Taro Okamoto Award, 2005, and Aichi Prefecture Arts and Culture Newcomer Award, 2008.
